Backup

You should probably create backups after each payroll and after filing paperwork to the government. PayMaster  allows you to store the backup file wherever you like. Ideally, you should store backups on a different machine than the machine hosting the database. People with a client-server setup might consider storing the backups on a workstation. If something happens to the server you still have the backup.

The best bet is to have your backups on a computer and later store them to a more permanent medium like a tape backup or a CD-ROM. The gold standard is to store the tape or CD off site. In the event of disaster, you can recover everything and the price of a CD is very cheap insurance.

The first thing to do is to tell PayMaster  where to store the backup file. It is a good idea to select the backups folder.

Now the program will put the backup we are about to create in the backups folder. Notice that the file name for our new backup is “Aug2107_1213-DEMO.zip”. The file name is a combination of the company ID along with the date and time. NOTE: for people with multiple companies the backup is only made for the company you are currently logged on to.

To create a backup all you need to do is click the “Backup” button. PayMaster  will create the backup file and store it in the selected folder.

Notice that our new backup now appears in the file selection window. Now would be a good time to copy the contents of the backups folder to CD.
